What is a Laneway Home?

A laneway Home is a small secondary residence or studio, typically located at the rear of an existing home. They often replace an existing garage or parking vicinity. Laneway Homes provide an efficient and sustainable alternative to urban living.

Why build a Laneway Home?

Laneway Homes can be used to provide a secondary residence for family members. Or as a rental suite to generate additional income from your existing property, thus adding to your property value. They can beautify your lane and help reduce your neighborhood's environmental impact.

Where can I build one?

You must live in a community that allows Lane houses or ADU's (Vancouver, Maple Ridge, North Vancouver). Your lot must be at least 33' wide, with an open lane. They're also intended for rental or family use only (no strata-tilting). Please visit Vancouver.ca for more info.
